The Menno Simons Historical
Library and Archives

The mission of the Menno Simons Historical Library is to collect, preserve and make available for study and research the recorded history, doctrines, life and arts of Anabaptist and Mennonite groups. Materials on Shenandoah Valley history, culture and genealogy are also included.

Menno photoThe MSHL has special strengths in the Protestant Reformation, Dutch and German Anabaptist/Mennonite history and thought, Mennonites and related groups in North America, and appropriate bibliographies. Library materials do not circulate.

The Archives contains the official papers of Eastern Mennonite University and Virginia Mennonite Conference and the personal papers of some local persons (mostly Mennonite).

The Menno Simons Historical Library is open Monday through Friday, 8:00-12:00 and 1:00-5:00, closed for major holidays. It is wise for researchers to call or write before coming from a distance. The Archives is open by appointment only.
